CCM bylaws

Article I: Purpose and Objectives

The Center for Computational Mathematics is an interdisciplinary, inter-campus
group whose purpose is to:

1. provide a focus for research on Computational Mathematics;

2. foster interaction between faculty of various departments and campuses of
the University of Colorado who have an interest in Computational Mathematics;

3. enhance interaction between computational mathematicians at the University
of Colorado and computational mathematicians in industry, government
laboratories, and other universities;

4. provide education and training to graduate students in the field of
Computational Mathematics through course work, research projects and
internships;

5. enhance the national and international visibility of the current effort in
Computational Mathematics at the University of Colorado;

6. enhance the ability of the members of the Center to attract externally
funded grants;


Article II. Administrative Structure

1. The Center is formally associated with and sponsored by the College of
Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado at Denver.

2. The Center reports to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
and to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

3. The Center is affiliated with and based at the Department of Mathematics.

4. The Center shall be administered by a Director, who should be full-time
faculty member of the Department of Mathematics.

5. The Director shall be responsible for the budget of the Center, supervision
of personnel employed by or provided to the Center, and management of all other
Center resources.

6. The Director shall be advised by an Executive Committee and shall consult
major long-term decision with the Executive Committee and the members.

7. The director shall consult major long-term decisions with the affected
faculty.

8. The Director shall be appointed for a three years term by the dean of CLAS
upon recommendation of the Executive Committee and may be removed in the same
manner.

9. The Executive Committee, consisting of no less than three and no more than
five members (except corporate sponsor members), shall be appointed for a one
year renewable term by the Director. No member of the Executive Committee may
serve more than two consecutive years. At least one of the members should be
from outside of the Department of Mathematics.

10. The Director shall meet with the Executive committee at least twice a year
and shall call regular meetings of all members of the Center at least once a
year.

11. The director may appoint other members to positions such as Technical
Director, and delegate to them some of the Director's duties.


Article III: Membership

1. The Center will be available to all faculty members who wish to participate.

2. Each regular member of the Center must be rostered in an academic department
on one of the four University of Colorado campuses.

3. Computational mathematicians from industry, government laboratories, and
other universities may hold an adjunct membership.

4. Corporations and other entities may become Affiliates of the Center under
provisions established by the Director and approved by the Executive committee.

5. The Center Director will maintain a roster of the members of the Center on
the Center website. The roster will accompany the early report to the Dean of
CLAS.


Article IV: Revision and Amendments of By-laws

Amendments of the by-laws of the Center shall be initiated by the Director, in
consultation with members and the executive committee, and approved by the Dean
of CLAS.
