Configuring pine to read mail from the exchange server

Please note the use of webmail.ucdenver.edu not webmail.cudenver.edu effective 6/13/2008
and use mail.ucdenver.pvt as the smtp server
This is only available to University Employees.

If you do not know your Exchange username and/or password contact the help desk at phone number *45HELP or (303)315-4357

Here are some items that need to be changed in your ~/.pinerc file to enable pine you to read IMAP mail from the exchange server.

Use your own Exchange user name rather than username.
Use your real Exchange name not Firstname.Lastname.

Edit lines with parameters as follows. You will find that these lines are blank following the = by default.

incoming-folders=Exchange_INBOX {webmail.ucdenver.edu/ssl/user=username}INBOX

folder-collections=Mail mail/[], Exchange_FOLDERS {webmail.ucdenver.edu/ssl/user=username}[]

feature-list=enable-incoming-folders

customized-hdrs = From: FirstName.LastName@ucdenver.edu

smtp-server=mail.ucdenver.pvt

If you find your user ID and password do not work with pine confirm that it works when loging in using a browser at http://webmail.ucdenver.edu
Call the help desk (303 315 4357) if you continue having trouble with your password.
If you want pine to save your password so you do not need to keep typing it, then create a empty .alpine.passfile password file using:
touch ~/.alpine.passfile
To avoid getting a message about "kerberos authentication" being broken when connecting to the exchange server change the line in your .pinerc file to as follows:
disable-these-authenticators= GSSAPI
Next time you login to the exchange server you will have the option of saving your password in encripted form to ~/.pine.pwd

When you no longer need your math INBOX then you can eliminate the above modifications to:
incoming-folders=
feature-list=
then add:
inbox-path=Exchange_INBOX {webmail.ucdenver.edu/ssl/user=username}INBOX
This way you will have just one INBOX from Exchange
