Undergraduate Applied Statistics Certificate


Entrance Requirements

All undergraduate students in good standing (including non-degree seeking students) will be admitted to the program. For students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences this requires a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or above. See the current Catalog on the Academics webpage for additional details. Some mathematical background (including calculus and linear algebra) is recommended.


Curriculum

There are three parts to the requirements (see the University of Colorado Denver course catalog for descriptions).

Required courses:

  1. MATH 2830
  2. Basic Methods (choose one)
    • MATH 4820: Statistics
    • MATH 4830: Applied Statistics
  3. Advanced Methods (choose one)
    • MATH 4387: Regression Analysis, Modeling & Time Series
    • MATH 4394: Experimental Designs
    • MATH 5060: Exploratory Data Analysis

Electives (pick one):

  1. MATH 4101 or any statistics course in the Math Department at the 4000 level or higher
  2. ECON 4150
  3. ECON 4811
  4. GEOG 4770
  5. GEOL 4770
  6. SOC 5183
  7. Equivalent course pre-approved by the Certificate Coordinator

Project:

An independent data analysis project with a report and presentation to demonstrate proficiency with data analysis techniques and a statistical computing software package. Enroll for one hour of MATH 4840 (Independent Study) or in an equivalent course pre-approved by the Certificate Coordinator.


Grade Requirements

Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA or above in these courses with no credit given for courses with grades below B-.


Residency Requirements

Since a certificate is a University of Colorado Denver certification of a student's specialized knowledge in an advanced subject area, all courses in the certificate program are expected to be taken in residency at the University of Colorado Denver.
