MATH 7664 ITERATIVE METHODS IN NUMERICAL LINEAR ALGEBRA

Project 1 is to learn how to compile and run PETSc examples from Vectors: Examples Tutorial using departmental high-performance parallel Beowulf Cluster, supported by the NSF Award DMS MRI 0079719.

On beowulf, copy /opt/petsc-2.1.1/src/vec/examples/tutorials into your personal directory. Compile and run the following examples:

ex1.c: Basic vector routines. Due Feb. 14.
ex1e.c: Demonstrates various vector routines. Due Feb. 14.
ex2.c: Builds a parallel vector with 1 component on the firstprocessor, 2 on the second, etc. Due Feb. 19.
ex3.c: Parallel vector layout. Due Feb. 19.
ex6.c: Writes an array to a file, then reads an array from a file, then forms a vector. Due Feb. 21.
ex11.c: Demonstrates VecStrideNorm(). Due Feb. 21.

Students should understand and be able to explain what these examples do. Every student will be responsible for one example. The reports will be in the form of 20 min class presentations.
