What should Auraria library do
The online services through Auraria library have improved considerably
since 1999, when this page was first written.
Our librarians have been successful in convincing
some publishers that we should have online access to their journals subscripted
in Boulder (such as on sciencedirect) and are working on more. Both libraries have integrated
online subscription to their catalogs. In fact because many journal are
available more than one way and URLs change often the best way to get to
an online version of a journal is through the library catalog; my links
may be out of date; however there are journals on sites such as
sciencedirect and jstor, which are available in fulltext but linked from the catalog.
- subscribe to the Web of Science and all fulltext sites there are! Most interesting
journal subscriptions on paper are gone now.
- provide online access to all sites and databases accessible from Boulder by
proxy - our IDs are good in CU Boulder libraries too
- subscribe to online versions of journals WITH FULL BACK ISSUES (forget about the teasers that have only last x years - the paper
you need is always just before the cutoff), then save the trees and cancel subscription to the hardcopies
